Beartooth has released its sixth studio album, “Pure Ecstasy,” marking a shift for a band whose records have historically been driven almost entirely by frontman Caleb Shomo in the studio.

Released through Fearless Records, the 11-track album is Beartooth’s first full-length project with the label and brings more outside collaborators and band members into the recording process. Shomo still wrote, recorded and largely produced the album, but worked with producer and songwriter Jordan Fish, formerly of Bring Me the Horizon, and other musicians on the project.

The release comes as the Columbus, Ohio, rock band prepares for a world tour beginning Sept. 17 in Frankfurt, Germany. A U.S. leg is scheduled to begin Nov. 11 in Boston and run through Dec. 19 in Wheatland, California.

Beartooth also released a music video for “Beautiful Again,” one of the album’s 11 tracks.

Shomo said the song emerged from sessions with Fish and reflected the emotional extremes he experienced while making the record.

“To me, this song perfectly depicts the duality of my headspace while writing the album. Pure joy and pure despair, nothing in between,” Shomo said.

The album continues Beartooth’s combination of heavy rock, melodic choruses and personal songwriting, but its creation differed from much of the band’s earlier work.

Shomo founded Beartooth as a personal project in his Ohio basement in 2013, producing the music himself and playing the instruments on recordings that dealt with anxiety, anger, depression and isolation.

That approach gradually evolved as Beartooth grew into a full touring band.

On “Pure Ecstasy,” bassist Oshie Bichar, guitarists Zach Huston and Will Deely and drummer Connor Denis took larger roles in the recording process. Denis played drums across the album, making it the first Beartooth record on which Shomo did not perform every instrument himself.

Fish also worked closely with Shomo on several songs, including “Eyes Closed” and “Beautiful Again.”

“There are so many fun riffs to play on ‘Eyes Closed,’” Shomo said. “It was so fun to scream out and let go. The song was written from the ground up with Jordan, and the moment it was a demo, we knew we had something special.”

Skyler Accord, whose credits include Issues, Twenty One Pilots and Bilmuri, also contributed to the songwriting process, including work on “For Me By Me.”

Shomo described collaborating with Fish as a departure from the way he had traditionally approached Beartooth records.

“He was feeling those things with me and pushing me to express them,” Shomo said. “Every time I felt like I didn’t have it, he’d carry me to the finish line – and every time, a few days later, I’d listen back and think, ‘I’m so glad I didn’t back off. I’m so glad I didn’t hide.’”

The album opens with its title track, which began during a studio session with Periphery guitarist Misha Mansoor before Shomo continued developing it with Fish.

“‘Pure Ecstasy’ was birthed in a studio with Misha Mansoor, ridiculous loudspeakers, and the dumbest heaviest chugs we could chug,” Shomo said. “Once it was brought home and expanded on with Jordan Fish, there was no question it was the album opener.”

Other tracks include “Free,” “Bullshit,” “Stadiums,” “Sorry,” “Lose You To Find Me,” “You,” “For Me By Me” and “Made It.”

“Free” also became part of the album’s move toward more personal material, according to Shomo.

“The song is the start of the next chapter of my music and my life,” he said. “The emotional roller coaster that is living can be very complicated at times. In one day you can equally experience pure fear and pure joy. ‘Free’ is the most honest depiction of my soul I will most likely ever make.”

“Pure Ecstasy” follows Beartooth’s 2023 album, “The Surface,” which reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Alternative and Hard Music charts and produced the rock radio singles “Might Love Myself” and “I Was Alive.”

The band has also built its catalog around songs including the gold-certified “Hated” and platinum-certified “In Between.”

Beartooth will take the new material on the road beginning with its European tour in September and October before heading to the United States in November.

The U.S. portion includes a Nov. 12 performance at Hammerstein Ballroom in New York and a Dec. 18 show at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles. Don Broco, Magnolia Park and Windwaker are scheduled to support Beartooth throughout the U.S. dates.

After the North American run, the tour is scheduled to resume in Australia in January with shows in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
