GRAMMY and JUNO Award-winning Canadian singer-songwriter Chantal Kreviazuk is returning to original music this fall with the announcement of her upcoming album, “Rockstar Joy,” led by the release of its title track.
The 10-song album marks Kreviazuk’s first collection of new original material since revisiting her songwriting catalog on “In My Own Voice,” an album featuring reinterpretations of songs she wrote for artists including Drake, Kelly Clarkson, Kendrick Lamar, Pitbull and Christina Aguilera.
The title single, “Rockstar Joy,” explores the challenges of loving someone whose public life often competes with life at home. Written solely by Kreviazuk and produced by Eric Rosse, the piano-driven ballad reflects on her relationship with husband Raine Maida, lead singer of Canadian rock band Our Lady Peace.
“I’m excited to release a song that’s so true to my experience as the wife of a rockstar,” Kreviazuk said. “I always hope that after he gives so much out there, he’ll save some joy for me. But I think that’s something a lot of people feel about the people they love. We all hope that after they give so much of themselves to their work, there’s still a little joy left when they come home.”
Recorded at Fuse Studio in Stockholm, Sweden, the song features drummer Matt Chamberlain, guitarist Niko Rosse, backing vocalist Satya Rosse, and string and bass arrangements by Rosse.
The single arrives alongside the release of “I’m Going To Break Your Heart: A Rock ‘n’ Roll Love Story,” a memoir co-authored by Kreviazuk and Maida that chronicles their relationship. The book is currently on the Canadian bestseller list.
The album represents a shift back to Kreviazuk’s own experiences after a period spent revisiting songs she had written for other performers. “Rockstar Joy” centers on her perspective as a songwriter and storyteller through a collection of new material.
Kreviazuk has remained active in recent months, completing a U.S. tour earlier this year. She is also scheduled to embark on a cross-Canada tour with Maida this fall.
A platinum-selling artist, Kreviazuk has released seven studio albums during a career spanning more than two decades. In addition to recording her own music, she has written or co-written songs for artists including Avril Lavigne, Britney Spears, Gwen Stefani, Josh Groban, Shakira and Christina Aguilera.
“Rockstar Joy” is scheduled for release this fall. The title track is available now on streaming platforms.
