Melbourne singer-songwriter Caddy Callaghan is turning a deeply personal chapter of her life into music with the release of her new single, “Sweet Fool,” a piano-driven pop-rock track that reflects both the pursuit of creative ambition and the vulnerability of unspoken love.

The song, released as the latest preview of her forthcoming debut solo album “There You Are,” traces its origins to a quiet moment years ago while Callaghan was working as a primary school teacher. During a break from class, she retreated to a music room and wrote about the growing desire to pursue music full time.

“The song is a calling to follow your true dream and inspiration,” Callaghan said. “I could see where my heart wanted to be, but I also knew I had to walk back into the classroom when the bell rang. It was about holding onto that vision, even when it felt far away.”

Built around warm piano melodies, layered harmonies and an uplifting chorus, “Sweet Fool” explores the tension between ambition and patience. While the song reflects Callaghan’s own journey toward a music career, it also tells the story of romantic hope through the perspective of someone admiring another person from afar and wondering whether that dream could one day become reality.

The recording also marks an important milestone for the independent artist. “Sweet Fool” was among the first songs she recorded with Australian singer-songwriter and producer Rick Price in Nashville. Sessions took place during a snowy March, with Callaghan recording by candlelight around Price’s grand piano to capture the song’s intimate atmosphere. Additional backing vocals were later recorded in Melbourne through her independent label, Cadwyn Clare Records, alongside Australian producer Jay Smith.

The single follows “Wait A Minute” and continues the autobiographical themes that shape “There You Are.” According to Callaghan, the album reflects years of balancing family life, work and songwriting while remaining committed to building a music career.

A songwriter for more than 30 years, Callaghan draws inspiration from artists including Billy Joel, Bonnie Raitt, Michael McDonald and Madonna. Her work has received recognition from the Australian Songwriters Association, national radio support from ABC, and mentorship through Melbourne’s Tuesday Night Song Club, led by Mark Seymour, Liz Stringer and Charles Jenkins.

In addition to her work as a musician, Callaghan is the founder of Cadwyn Clare Records and is a mother of three. Her latest release continues her focus on writing songs rooted in personal experiences, emotional honesty and timeless pop-rock melodies as she prepares for the arrival of her debut solo album.
