Country singer Kenzie Wheeler is kicking off a new chapter in his career with the release of “B.O.A.T.,” his first single since signing with Wax Records and the latest step for the former “The Voice” runner-up as he leans into the traditional country sound that first inspired him.

The upbeat track takes its title from the phrase “Break Out Another Thousand,” a tongue-in-cheek expression about the rising costs that seem to appear one after another. Built around influences from 1990s country, the song follows Wheeler through a string of everyday financial setbacks, from a blown engine on Florida’s Highway 301 to mounting expenses waiting at home.

“I’ve always wanted to make country music that has that traditional sound but still feels right for today,” Wheeler said. “‘B.O.A.T.’ has that ’90s country feel I love, but it’s also a fun song that I think a lot of people can relate to. I’m excited for it to be my first release with Wax and for everyone to hear what we’ve been working on.”

The single was written by Wheeler with Steve Molella and Brian Rivlin, who also produced the recording at Noble Street Studios in Toronto. It serves as the first preview of the music Wheeler has been developing since joining the Canadian label.

A seventh-generation Floridian from Dover, Wheeler said his musical foundation comes from artists including George Strait, Alan Jackson, Keith Whitley and Kenny Chesney. Those influences continue to shape his approach as he blends classic country storytelling with contemporary themes.

Wheeler first gained national attention after releasing his debut album, Dover, in 2018. He later finished as runner-up on Season 20 of NBC’s “The Voice,” where he competed under coach Kelly Clarkson.

Since then, he has performed at venues and events including the Florida Strawberry Festival, House of Blues at Disney Springs, Hard Rock Tampa, The Dallas Bull and Ole Red locations across the United States.

According to the label, Wheeler’s latest music reflects his commitment to traditional country while drawing inspiration from everyday experiences. “B.O.A.T.” introduces that direction through a lighthearted story about the financial pressures many listeners may recognize, delivered with the baritone voice that has become his signature.

The release marks Wheeler’s debut on Wax Records and signals the beginning of his next phase as a recording artist.
