Rico Nasty is revisiting the sound that helped define her career with the release of her new album, “RX,” a nine-track project produced by Kenneth Blume, formerly known as Kenny Beats.

The album, released Friday, reunites the Maryland rapper with Blume, who previously collaborated with her on the 2019 mixtape “Anger Management.” The project also features co-production from Dylan Brady of 100 Gecs on the track “Butthead.”

The release arrives as Rico Nasty balances a growing acting career with music. She recently filmed her acting debut for the upcoming Apple TV+ series “Margot’s Got Money Troubles,” starring Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer, Nicole Kidman, Nick Offerman and Lindsey Normington, while preparing for a fall North American tour.

“I’m happy I get to finally let you guys hear this album and soak it all in,” Rico Nasty said.

The artist said reconnecting with Blume helped her return to the style that first attracted fans.

“RX” combines Blume’s experimental production with Rico Nasty’s signature blend of aggressive lyricism, humor and high-energy delivery. The album includes previously released singles “Cupcake” and “Rituals,” along with the focus track “Frenzy.”

Rico described “Frenzy” as an early favorite during the recording process.

“‘Frenzy,’ ‘Frenzy,’ ‘Frenzy,’ we couldn’t wait for this one,” she said. “‘Frenzy’ was one of the first songs we made and fell in love with! Top 3 on the album.”

The project marks another chapter in Rico Nasty’s evolving career after last year’s “LETHAL” and its expanded “LETHAL-ER” deluxe edition, which included several collaborations with Blume and continued the punk-rap influences that have become central to her music.

Born Maria Kelly, Rico Nasty first gained attention with her fusion of trap, punk and rap influences. She said “RX” represents a renewed focus on the qualities she believes listeners connected with from the beginning.

“They like my music for bars. They like when I make them laugh,” she said. “They want to hear me boast, because they’re listening to that shit as if it’s them. And they want to hear bangers.”

She also reflected on feeling pressure over the years to fit expectations about her musical identity.

“But what makes music fun is bars and metaphors,” Rico said. “So at the core of everything that I do is rap music, even if I switch the genre.”

The album’s title references an earlier version of “RX” that Rico began teasing in 2021 before ultimately scrapping the project. She said the concept remained centered on creating music built around confidence and authenticity.

“I think it’s just an ode to my old self, to never change,” she said. “RX is about something being prescribed, and what I’m prescribing is confidence. I think that confidence can make or break you, and I think it’s made and broke me a couple of times. But I also think the realest thing that a person can do is be themselves. The ‘x’ in ‘RX’ stands for infinity, so I’ma always be here.”

Rico Nasty will begin her 2026 tour Aug. 29 at Chreece Festival in Indianapolis before headlining shows across the United States through mid-October while also joining select dates with Hayley Williams.
