Indie pop trio ill peach is turning everyday conversations, personal loss and late-night reflection into the centerpiece of its second album, “EAVESDROPPING,” released Friday through Handwritten Records.

The 10-track record arrives three years after the band’s debut album, “THIS IS NOT AN EXIT,” and marks a more personal chapter for the Los Angeles-based group. While the album draws heavily from overheard conversations and observations of human relationships, its creation was also shaped by the death of lead singer Jess Corazza’s father in 2024.

Corazza said completing the album became a way to navigate grief while remaining creatively engaged.

“‘EAVESDROPPING’ is an album that immerses you in the experience of being a fly on the wall, privy to the strange, unsettling, and yet strangely beautiful tapestry of human interactions,” Corazza said.

“In the middle of making this album, I lost my father in 2024. And even though every bone in my body was screaming with grief, I put all my creative energy towards completing this album. Which in turn felt cathartic and therapeutic because it forced me out of the heaviness and into something that felt like colorful, life giving energy.”

The album explores themes of intimacy, isolation, awkward encounters and the unpredictable nature of relationships. According to the band, the songs were inspired by fragments of conversations, personal experiences and moments that often go unnoticed.

Alongside the album release, ill peach unveiled a music video for “RODEO,” which the band describes as the project’s thematic centerpiece.

“‘RODEO’ felt like the song that wrapped up the whole album in a big red bow,” the band said. “Weaved together from so many conversations about the ups and downs of life, it became this symbol that life is like riding a bull. Uncontrollable. You fall, get back up, face plant in the mud and the muck, and maybe finally hold on for 8 seconds.”

The video uses clothing as a metaphor for life’s unseen forces. In the visual, Corazza is pulled in different directions by the clothes she wears before eventually surrendering to the chaos around her.

Through the lens of grief, Corazza said the song became a reminder of how little control people ultimately have over life’s direction.

“We didn’t want the video to be too literal, so we attached that idea to the clothes we wear each day,” the band said. “In the video, the clothes become an invisible force pulling Jess in every direction, until finally she gives in and is swallowed up whole.”

Comprised of Corazza, Pat Morrissey and Jesse Schuster, ill peach traces its roots to friendships formed through various musical pursuits, including indie bands, choir, musical theater and jazz groups. Corazza and Morrissey later built careers as professional songwriters, collaborating with artists including SZA, Weezer, Pharrell, Icona Pop and Big Freedia before launching their own project.

The band’s early work gained attention from outlets including The FADER, Consequence, Wonderland and Alternative Press. Their debut album introduced a sound blending indie rock, alternative pop and electronic influences, often leaning into unconventional songwriting and production choices.

According to the band, that willingness to embrace experimentation remains central to “EAVESDROPPING.”

The album features 10 songs, including previously released tracks “Small Talk,” “Molly’s Not a Friend” and “Cult Daddy.” Other tracks include “Dinner for One,” “Crumbs,” “All Day I Dream About Sleep,” “Crash Course Dummy,” “Yup” and “Ash Tray.”

For Corazza, the project represents both an artistic evolution and a personal milestone.

“I’ve always had a bad habit of eavesdropping, but this time around it helped me step out of my grief in a way and almost place myself in someone else’s story for a moment,” she said. “Call it dissociation, but whatever it is, I’m so fucking proud of the album. And maybe all those feelings of loss can go toward the next one.”
