Singer-songwriter and producer Sheva Elliot is leaning into desire, spontaneity and self-trust on her latest single, “Birds of a Feather,” a roots-rock track that explores the tension between following expectations and following instinct.

The new song, released June 4, serves as an early preview of Elliot’s forthcoming full-length album and showcases a brighter, more playful side of an artist known for emotionally candid songwriting.

“Ultimately, this song is about saying ‘to hell with it,’ going for the person who makes your heart flutter, and not worrying about the consequences,” Elliot said.

Driven by twangy guitars and upbeat roots-rock energy, “Birds of a Feather” centers on the internal conflict between doing what is socially accepted and pursuing what feels genuinely right. The song embraces uncertainty while encouraging listeners to trust their own desires rather than outside judgment.

That perspective aligns with themes that have long shaped Elliot’s music.

The Los Angeles-born artist often writes about what she calls “the truth of the human experience,” exploring emotions that range from vulnerability and heartbreak to joy, sensuality and self-discovery. Her songs frequently draw from personal experiences and resist reducing complicated emotions into simple answers.

While “Birds of a Feather” captures a sense of freedom and momentum, it also signals the direction of a larger project.

The upcoming album blends roots rock, Americana, gospel and classic rock influences, reflecting the diverse musical foundation Elliot has built throughout her career. Influences including Chris Stapleton, Grace Potter, Aretha Franklin, Lainey Wilson and The Red Clay Strays can be heard throughout the record’s sound, though Elliot continues to shape those inspirations into something distinctly her own.

The new project traces themes of growth and transformation, documenting what Elliot describes as the process of becoming.

A longtime vocalist who began singing at age 4, Elliot has developed a reputation for combining powerful vocal performances with emotionally direct songwriting. Her music often moves between soulful ballads and guitar-driven rock songs while maintaining a focus on personal storytelling.

Recent releases have helped expand her audience within the Americana and roots music communities.

Her previous single, “Ruler of My Heart,” introduced listeners to a cinematic, soul-infused sound that highlighted both her vocal range and songwriting approach. The release helped establish momentum that continues with “Birds of a Feather.”

Elliot remains deeply involved in every aspect of her music. She serves as the primary writer, composer and producer of the upcoming album while co-producing with Silas Nello.

The project also features contributions from engineer and mixer Claire Morison, mastering engineer Howie Weinberg and musicians Taylor Kropp, Eric England, Max Bauhof, Thomas Johansen, Matt Pynn and Nello.

For Elliot, the goal is not simply to blend genres but to create music that reflects the complexity of lived experience.

“Birds of a Feather” captures that philosophy through a song that favors instinct over caution and emotional honesty over approval.

As she prepares to release her next album, the single offers a glimpse of an artist continuing to explore identity, freedom and the choices that shape who people become.

The result is a roots-rock anthem that embraces risk and reminds listeners that sometimes the most meaningful decisions come from following what feels right rather than what looks right.
