After years of personal struggle and a rapid rise in alternative music circles, Love Spells is preparing to release his debut album, “LOVE IS THE LAW,” a project rooted in the idea that love influences nearly every aspect of human experience.

The album, due out July 24 through RCA Records, arrives alongside the release of the new single “Keep It To Yourself,” which explores intimacy, trust and the limits of what relationships should share with the outside world.

“This song is about realizing everybody doesn’t deserve access to what’s sacred between two people,” Love Spells, whose real name is Taegan Harris, said. “Sometimes, love and its problems sound better in private. Some things you just gotta keep to yourself.”

The track blends soft percussion, guitar-driven melodies and Harris’ signature falsetto, continuing the dreamy, atmospheric sound that has become synonymous with the 21-year-old artist. A music video directed by Tanner Deutsch accompanies the release and expands on the visual storytelling established in the video for his earlier single, “Crutch.”

Both songs will appear on “LOVE IS THE LAW,” Harris’ first full-length album and his most expansive statement to date.

“Our lives revolve around love,” Harris said. “We do so many things because of it, and so many problems come out of it.”

That philosophy serves as the foundation of the album, which combines dream pop, indie rock and groove-oriented production while examining themes of connection, vulnerability and emotional growth.

The release follows a period of increasing momentum for the Houston-born musician. Earlier this year, “Crutch” premiered on Kevin Abstract and Dominic Fike’s Apple Music program, Geezer Radio, before charting on the NACC Top 200 and attracting support from several music publications and playlists.

The album’s arrival also marks another chapter in a story that began far from major-label recording studios.

As a teenager, Harris pursued music while experiencing homelessness and instability. At 18, he moved to California and spent months developing his craft, often traveling between studios while living with a friend he had met online.

A turning point came when Kevin Abstract invited him to contribute to the 2025 album “Blush.” The opportunity introduced Harris to collaborators including Dominic Fike and Deb Never and helped expand his creative network.

The experience ultimately led him back to Los Angeles, where he began building the material that would become “LOVE IS THE LAW.”

The project was developed with a group of collaborators that includes Danny Parra, Boy Deco, Brad Hale, Rodaidh McDonald, Alex Craig and veteran songwriter and producer Rick Nowels.

Harris also looked to his hometown for inspiration. While creating the album, he drew from memories of nights spent at Numbers, a longtime Houston nightclub known as a gathering place for alternative music fans and creative communities. The sounds of 1970s, 1980s and New Wave music became important influences, alongside films such as “Dirty Dancing” and “Footloose.”

Those inspirations helped shape an album Harris envisioned as both cinematic and emotionally direct.

The release comes as Love Spells prepares for his largest run of live performances yet. Following a series of sold-out club shows in Los Angeles, he is scheduled to perform at festivals including Lollapalooza, All Things Go, Pukkelpop, All Points East and Rock en Seine.

He will also embark on a 28-date headline tour across Europe and North America, concluding Oct. 16 at The Roxy in Los Angeles.

For Harris, the album represents more than a debut. It is the culmination of years spent pursuing music through uncertainty, guided by a belief that love remains both a source of inspiration and a force that shapes people’s lives.

With “LOVE IS THE LAW,” Love Spells turns that belief into the central theme of his most ambitious project yet.
