For Cade Hoppe, success has never felt like a straight line.

The indie-pop singer-songwriter and producer’s latest single, “Still Turn This Around,” examines the tension between pushing forward and questioning whether the journey is still worth taking. The song arrives as Hoppe prepares to release his upcoming album, “Safer at a Distance,” a project centered on his evolving relationship with music, ambition and identity.

Built around atmospheric production and introspective songwriting, “Still Turn This Around” explores the uncertainty that can accompany long-term goals, particularly when there is no clear finish line in sight.

“You don’t know where you’re going or how to get there, and every added mile is an extra mile if you ever decide to turn back,” Hoppe said. “It’s like Newton’s fourth law (probably): forward momentum + paralyzing indecision = keep going.”

The single serves as an introduction to themes that run throughout “Safer at a Distance,” which Hoppe describes as an exploration of the emotional costs and rewards of pursuing an uncertain future. Rather than offering answers, the project focuses on the questions that emerge along the way.

The song itself evolved over several years. Hoppe wrote and rewrote the track multiple times, allowing it to develop alongside the broader ideas shaping the album.

Entirely self-produced, the single reflects the hands-on approach that has become central to Hoppe’s creative process. His music combines cinematic arrangements with emotionally candid lyrics, creating songs that often feel as reflective as they are expansive.

That balance has become a defining characteristic of his work since emerging with his debut EP, “Tell Me How It’s Worth It,” in 2021.

Hoppe’s path into music began far from the traditional singer-songwriter route.

While studying finance and playing college basketball at New York University, he found himself spending more time writing songs and learning production. When the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted daily life, he made the decision to pursue music full time.

To support that transition, Hoppe worked service industry jobs while funding his earliest releases and developing his skills as both an artist and producer.

After spending seven years in New York City, he recently relocated to Los Angeles, a move that coincides with a new chapter in his career. Alongside his own releases, Hoppe has increasingly expanded his work as a producer for other artists.

His catalog has steadily grown over the past several years with projects including “Everything That’s Wrong with You” in 2022 and “Just Look At The Moon” in 2023. His music has also earned recognition from outlets including Notion, Ones To Watch and EARMILK.

While his earlier work often focused on personal relationships and emotional vulnerability, “Still Turn This Around” widens the lens to examine larger questions about purpose, perseverance and self-belief.

The result is a song that captures a familiar experience: continuing forward despite uncertainty, not because the destination is clear, but because stopping feels just as impossible.

With “Still Turn This Around,” Hoppe offers a glimpse into an album shaped by self-reflection and doubt, documenting the complicated reality of chasing a dream while still figuring out where it leads.
