Pittsburgh noise-pop band feeble little horse returned Friday with the surprise release of its third studio album, “bitknot,” a record that leans into themes of digital alienation, consumer culture and modern connection while expanding the group’s chaotic, hook-heavy sound.

Released through Saddle Creek, the 11-track album arrives without the long promotional buildup typical of major indie releases, instead appearing alongside a newly announced North American, United Kingdom and European tour that runs through December.

The band, made up of Sebastian Kinsler, Lydia Slocum and Jake Kelley, wrote, arranged, produced and recorded “bitknot” across their homes in Pittsburgh, according to press materials released Friday.

On the album, feeble little horse continues to blur the line between abrasive noise textures and melodic songwriting, pairing distorted guitars and dense production with lyrics centered on isolation, hyperindividualism and the increasingly digital nature of everyday life.

The group said the album contrasts “the digital and the physical,” while questioning “ideas of hyperindividualism and self-sufficiency” in search of “new forms of interdependence and shared humanity.”

“The album art is based on the coincidental core memory matrix, which was used in old computers to store memory/access information using 0s and 1s,” the band said. “Each core, or ‘bit,’ is accessed through the grid of wires, like a knot that stores secret details and memories.”

The release follows growing attention for the Pittsburgh band’s unpredictable sound and live performances. In recent years, the group has earned praise from outlets including The New York Times, Pitchfork, NPR and Stereogum for combining noisy experimentation with pop structure and emotionally detached lyricism.

The album includes 11 tracks, including “Poison,” “Shady,” “Shopping” and “DMT.”

feeble little horse will begin its latest tour July 11 in Richmond, Virginia, before making stops across the United States, Canada and Europe. The run includes performances in New York, Chicago, London, Berlin, Paris and Los Angeles.

Artist presales began Friday, with local presales scheduled for May 28 and general ticket sales opening May 29.

The tour will feature support from acts including Computerwife, for Touching Ice, snuggle and MOP on select dates.

“bitknot” is available now on streaming platforms and through Saddle Creek.
