Metric has released its 10th studio album, “Romanticize the Dive,” a project that revisits the band’s early roots while reflecting on uncertainty and creative longevity more than two decades into its career.

The album, released Friday via Thirty Tigers, arrives alongside plans for a North American and international tour this summer with fellow Canadian acts Broken Social Scene and Stars.

Built around themes of reflection and missed chances, the album centers on the track “Tremolo,” which explores letting go of alternative paths and accepting limited control over outcomes. The band describes the song as confronting questions about what could have been and moving forward despite uncertainty.

For its latest release, Metric returned to Electric Lady Studios in New York, where the band first connected during the early-2000s indie rock scene. The recording sessions reunited the group with producer Gavin Brown, who worked on earlier albums, alongside co-producers Jimmy Shaw and Liam O’Neil, and mix engineer John O’Mahoney.

The album includes previously released singles “Crush Forever,” “Time Is A Bomb” and “Victim Of Luck.” Frontwoman Emily Haines described “Crush Forever” as “my love letter to strong girls in this world,” framing the track as part of the album’s broader emotional range.

The 11-track project blends guitar-driven rock with electronic textures, drawing on the band’s earlier sound while placing it in a modern context. That approach reflects a broader trend among long-running indie acts revisiting their origins while adapting to a changing music landscape.

Metric, which has maintained its original lineup for more than 20 years, has built a career largely outside traditional major label systems, opting instead for independence and creative control. The release of “Romanticize the Dive” continues that trajectory while marking a milestone for the band’s longevity.

The album rollout also coincides with the announcement of the “All The Feelings Tour,” which begins June 8 in Austin, Texas, and includes stops across the United States, Canada and Europe. Several dates, including shows in Brooklyn and Toronto, have already sold out, according to tour organizers.

As the band moves into its third decade, “Romanticize the Dive” highlights how legacy indie acts are balancing nostalgia with new material, using familiar sounds to reconnect with longtime listeners while continuing to evolve their creative direction.
