A new tarot-inspired project tied to Christina Ricci is reframing Mother’s Day as a moment for reflection rather than routine gift-giving, as creators position the product as an alternative to traditional holiday gestures.

“Cat Full of Spiders,” a contemporary deck conceived by designer Mark Hampton in collaboration with Ricci, is being released internationally ahead of Mother’s Day, with a retail price ranging from €25 to $35 depending on region. The project is available through selected concept stores and online.

The release arrives as Mother’s Day traditions continue to center on familiar rituals such as flowers and cards. The creators of “Cat Full of Spiders” say the project instead focuses on the evolving experience of motherhood, framing it as “an ongoing process of change, of letting go, of becoming again.”

In that context, the deck is positioned not as a predictive tool but as a reflective one.

“It does not seek to predict the future, but to give form to emotion, to create a language for presence,” the project description states.

The 78-card deck reimagines tarot through a design-focused lens. Each illustrated card is intended to function as a prompt rather than a forecast, encouraging users to engage with themes such as stillness, tension, control, surrender and renewal.

Ricci’s involvement shapes much of the project’s narrative. The actress, whose career has spanned film and television, drew from her personal experience with motherhood and transformation in developing the concept.

“For Ricci, the foundation of the project is deeply personal,” the description states. “Shaped by her own evolution through motherhood and transformation, the tarot became a way of understanding internal states, a way to name what often remains unspoken.”

The project frames that process in grounded terms rather than spiritual ones.

“What emerges is not mysticism, but awareness, a quiet mapping of resilience, clarity, and renewal,” the description states.

Hampton translated those themes into the deck’s visual structure. Drawing on his background in precision-based design, he developed a system that emphasizes balance, texture and composition across the cards.

“Each card becomes a composed study of tension and release,” the description states.

The result, according to the creators, is a hybrid between an art object and a functional tool. The accompanying guidebook avoids traditional interpretations, instead offering questions meant to guide reflection.

“The accompanying guidebook replaces answers with questions, encouraging reflection over instruction, presence over interpretation,” the description states.

Material choices were also part of that approach. The deck is printed on archival paper with a matte finish and housed in an ivory magnetic slipcase, paired with a linen-textured guidebook. The design emphasizes slower, repeated use rather than one-time consumption.

The creators describe the project as offering a different type of Mother’s Day gesture, one centered less on symbolism and more on creating space for personal reflection.

“Not something to give as a symbol, but something that creates space for thought, for feeling, for a moment of self within the complexity of identity,” the description states.

“Cat Full of Spiders” is now available internationally through select retailers and its official website.
